Short track racing legend David Rogers, passed away at 64 years old following complications associated with his battle with lymphoma.
Known as the “Gentle Giant” by those who knew him best, Rogers was one of the most successful Late Model drivers in Florida racing history. He’s won championships at New Smyrna Speedway, Volusia Speedway Park and Orlando Speedworld. As well as six NASCAR All-American Series Florida state championships.
David took home the checkered flag in the Florida Governor’s Cup, Orange Blossom 100, as well as the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. In 2019 he set the record for most career starts in the Snowball Derby with 33.
In 1994, David became the only undefeated National Champion within the NASCAR All-American Series. However, those close to David knew him to be a humble man, never boasting of his wins and always looking for ways to support others both on and off the track. If you didn’t know anything else about David Rogers, that’s all you’d need to know.
The Forever 11 Charities was created with David’s life and legacy in mind. David was a hero to many through his racing or through the quiet ways he would help others. David loved kids. He handed out hundreds of trophies at the racetrack. Most weeks his trophy didn’t ride home with him – it accompanied a child home and is probably still gracing a bookshelf as a treasured memory.
